NPP Leader James K. Sangma Files Nomination for Rajya Sabha Seat

Shillong: National People’s Party leader James K. Sangma officially entered the race for the Rajya Sabha on Monday. He submitted his nomination papers to the Returning Officer at the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat, marking his bid for the state's vacant Upper House seat.

This election comes as the term of incumbent member Dr WR Kharlukhi nears its conclusion. The ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance-II coalition, which includes the NPP, UDP, BJP, HSPDP, and two independent legislators, previously reached a consensus to support the NPP vice-president for this position.

The Election Commission of India has set June 18 for the biennial polls, which involve 24 seats across 10 states. Voting is scheduled to take place from 8 am to 4 pm, with the counting of ballots set for 5 pm on the same day. As reported by the official schedule, "The Election Commission of India has scheduled the Rajya Sabha elections for 24 seats across 10 states on June 18."
