Northeast Ministers Convene in Nagaland to Tackle Education Reforms

Guwahati: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu joined regional leaders in Chumoukedima, Nagaland, for the two-day Education Conclave 2026. This summit brings together policymakers to hash out the rollout of the National Education Policy 2020. They gathered to address specific challenges and opportunities for Northeastern states.

The inaugural session featured Mizoram Education Minister Dr. Vanlalthlana, Tripura Education Minister Kishor Barman, and Arunachal Pradesh MLA Mutchu Mithi. Other regional dignitaries joined the talks as well. The group focused on the vision and implementation strategies for the new education framework.

Pegu spoke on the importance of the policy for the diverse tribal and linguistic heritage of the region. He believes teaching in the mother tongue improves results. Pegu said, "The policy's emphasis on education in the mother tongue provides an opportunity to strengthen learning outcomes while preserving and nurturing the region's linguistic identities."

Pegu gave credit to Nagaland Higher Education Minister Temjen Imna Along. He thanked him for hosting the event. The meeting offers a rare platform for Assam to share perspectives on how the region moves forward with federal education mandates.
