Agartala: Northeast Frontier Railway flipped the switch on a new 345 kWp rooftop solar plant at the Agartala Coaching Depot. The grid-tied system turns the facility into a net positive energy building. It now produces more power than the site consumes.

Surplus energy feeds back into the local grid during daylight hours. This cuts down on reliance on conventional power sources during expensive peak periods. Officials expect the move to drive down electricity costs while shrinking the railway's carbon footprint.

The project uses existing rooftop space to hit green goals. It is part of a larger plan to roll out sustainable infrastructure across the entire network. "The commissioning of the 345 kWp on-grid rooftop solar power plant forms part of Northeast Frontier Railway's ongoing efforts to adopt clean energy solutions and develop eco-friendly infrastructure," the railway stated.

The agency aims to scale up these clean energy setups. This effort aligns with the national goal to lower emissions through greener railway operations.
