Noklak District Imposes Ban on Single-Use Plastics Starting June 2026

Kohima: The District Administration of Noklak has declared a ban on single-use plastics across the Noklak Town Council jurisdiction starting June 5, 2026. This move aligns with directives from the Nagaland Government’s Urban Development Department to mitigate the growing environmental threats caused by plastic waste.

The restriction covers all single-use plastic carry bags, regardless of their size, color, or thickness. Additionally, the ban prohibits the sale or use of plastic drinking water and soft drink bottles with a capacity of less than one liter. All local vendors, businesses, and institutions must immediately stop the storage, distribution, and use of these items.

Authorities will deploy an enforcement team to conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance. Violators will face a fine of Rs 10,000 for the first offense and Rs 20,000 for the second. Repeat offenders risk having their trade licenses or permits canceled entirely.

Officials are urging residents to switch to sustainable options like cloth bags, jute bags, and reusable containers. The administration is calling on the public to cooperate with these measures to foster a cleaner and more environmentally responsible town.
