Kohima: The Niuland Area GBs Association has formally requested that Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio prioritize the construction of a new reinforced concrete bridge at Atu Ghoki. Association leaders VK Holo and Shikavi Zhimo warned that the current structure, which dates back to 1991, has deteriorated significantly and reached a dangerous state.

Traffic is currently restricted to one vehicle at a time to mitigate risks. The association emphasized that this crossing serves as a vital lifeline, linking Niuland district to Dimapur, Chümoukedima, Wokha, Kohima, and Assam. Thousands of daily commuters, including students and professionals, rely on this route for travel. The group is pressing for immediate government intervention to replace the bridge before the structure collapses and leads to a serious accident.
