Kohima: A three-day self-defence training programme for women and girls concluded on June 10 at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Stadium in Niuland. Organized by the District Administration and the District Hub for Empowerment of Women under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative, the event provided participants with practical skills through the martial art of Pencak Silat.
The training sessions were led by an elite team from the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association, which includes several Guinness World Record holders. Led by General Secretary Deep Kumar and Vice-President H. Vikishe Chophy, the instructional team featured accomplished athletes including Kevin, Kitenlo K Thono, and Liike Kibami.
Deputy Commissioner of Niuland, T L Kiusumong Tikhir, praised the collaboration between local organizers and the martial arts association. During the valedictory event, he encouraged the attendees to use their new skills to better their surroundings, stating, "the Deputy Commissioner commended the Niuland District Pencak Silat Association and the trainers for bringing world-class expertise to the district and urged the participants to become ambassadors of safety in their communities."
The programme finished with the distribution of certificates to all successful participants. Extra Assistant Commissioner Neisiezo Theunuo closed the event by thanking the administrative staff, the trainers, and the participants for their commitment to the initiative.
