Itanagar: NIT Jote and the Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies signed a deal to map seismic hazards across Arunachal Pradesh. The state sits in a dangerous slice of the Himalayan belt. Experts must now assess earthquake risks to protect new roads and buildings. The partners will use geophysical tools and geotechnical tests to scan the ground.
The deal was finalized by NIT Jote Director Prof. Mohan V. Aware and other key officials. The group also includes Dean Dr. Utpal Kumar Saha and engineers Dr. Mainak Mallik and Dr. Jumrik Taipodia. They plan to look into hazard assessment and site-specific civil engineering.
This work targets the safety of tunnels, highways, bridges, and railways. The state is growing fast despite the geological instability. Officials said the partnership reflects the "shared commitment of NIT Jote and CES&HS to contribute towards building a safer, more resilient and disaster-prepared Arunachal Pradesh through collaborative scientific research."
Engineers and planners will use the findings to dictate construction standards. Better data helps build smarter. The team expects this move to prevent future catastrophes in the region.
