Shillong: Meghalaya kicks off its fourth annual Pineapple Festival at Dilli Haat in New Delhi on July 10. The three-day event runs through July 12. It connects local growers with retailers, food businesses, and export markets. This push aims to fix gaps in production and logistics while securing higher pay for farmers.

Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia will open the event alongside Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. The state government sees this as a vital piece of its Vision@2032 economic plan. The festival supports the Meghalaya State Organic Mission, which targets bringing one lakh hectares under organic farming by 2028.

Meghalaya pineapples hold a Brix value between 16 and 18 degrees. They are sweet. They have low acidity. Recent exports to Lulu Hypermarkets in Dubai show the global demand for the crop. Local groups like the Jirang Organic Agro FPO have helped move this fruit to international shelves.

Sales numbers are climbing fast. Fresh pineapple sales jumped from 7.7 metric tonnes in 2023 to 15.4 metric tonnes in 2025. Groups have already inked deals with heavy hitters like Reliance Fresh, Amazon Karigar, Safal Foods, and Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters.

The opening ceremony includes signing new agreements with Flipkart and National E-Markets Limited. These deals will open more doors for local produce. Officials will also release a book titled "Meghalaya Pineapple: A Four-Edition Journey" to mark the event.

Visitors can buy fresh fruit, try value-added goods, and watch performances from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme. It is a mix of trade and culture.
