Kohima: Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital in Wokha officially launched an Advanced Life Support ambulance on May 29. The vehicle was provided through a corporate social responsibility initiative by the IRFC Foundation, the charitable arm of the Indian Railway Finance Corporation Limited.
This initiative aims to improve emergency response times and healthcare access for patients in the district’s remote and rural areas. General manager of IRFC, Nav Goel, attended the event as a special guest alongside Vineet Kumar, additional secretary for the Department of Finance and Investment and Infrastructure Development Authority of Nagaland.
The ambulance is a Tata Type-D model built on the Tata Winger platform and meets AIS 125 safety standards. Often described as an ICU on wheels, the vehicle features comprehensive medical equipment including an ECG machine, a defibrillator, oxygen systems, and a suction machine. It also includes modern safety features such as GPS tracking and germ-free interiors.
Nav Goel noted that the hilly terrain of Nagaland makes emergency transport difficult, and the new vehicle serves as a critical life-saving resource for the community. Wokha Deputy Commissioner Mhathung Tsanglao welcomed the addition, calling it a timely boost for the hospital’s emergency capabilities. The project included all necessary vehicle registrations, insurance, and medical equipment installations to ensure immediate operational readiness.
