Kohima: Dr. Sentitula of the North Eastern Council visited coffee farms in Ghotovi and Tuophema on June 22 and 23, 2026. She reviewed infrastructure for the regional Mission Coffee initiative. The project aims to build a complete value chain from seed to cup. Nagaland wants to become a major source of organic coffee.
At the Ghotovi cluster, Sentitula met with local leaders and farmers. She discussed how coffee creates jobs and raises household income. She told them, "Ghotovi has the potential to become a model for coffee based rural transformation in Nagaland and the wider Northeast."
The Tuophema site showcased diverse farming techniques. Farmers there grow coffee alongside avocado and black pepper. The NEC official inspected a massive 20-hectare plot featuring 40,000 coffee plants. She also checked potential locations for new coffee washing stations and a tech-heavy nursery.
Strict rules apply for project funding. Sentitula ordered the state Land Resources department to follow all financial guidelines. She expects community institutions to stay organized, manage dedicated bank accounts, and maintain technical support. This push aims to turn Nagaland into a premier coffee producer for the entire region.
