Kohima: Members of the Nagaland Parents Association for the Disabled (NAPAD) joined stakeholders in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on June 14 to discuss the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme. The Hitarth Sahayak National Convention 2026 focused on improving healthcare and rehabilitation services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Organized by PARIVAAR-NCPO and the US-based Voice of Specially Abled Persons (VOSAP), the event gathered advocates, government officials, and parent organizations. Nagaland State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Tongpang L. Jamir, attended the convention as a guest of honor alongside other key figures, including V.J. Rajput and Dr. Ajay Khemariya.
The discussions centered on the HITARTH initiative, which aims to boost enrollment in the Niramaya Health Insurance Scheme for individuals with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, and Down syndrome. The insurance plan offers coverage up to Rs 1 lakh, providing support for diagnostic tests, medicines, surgeries, and specialized therapies.
As the nodal agency for HITARTH in Nagaland, NAPAD works alongside the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities to increase awareness and enrollment. During the event, NAPAD representatives reaffirmed their goal to ensure all eligible citizens receive support, stating they are committed to "expanding access to affordable healthcare and rehabilitation services" for those in need.
