Nagaland Vehicle Registrations Hit Five Year High

Kohima: Nagaland saw a surge in new vehicle registrations through the first half of 2026. The state logged 16,012 new vehicles by July 4, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways VAHAN Dashboard. This performance beats all records from the previous four years.

Heavy goods vehicles dominated the roads. They accounted for 5,988 units, or more than one in three new registrations. Light motor vehicles followed with 4,830 units, while two-wheelers tallied 3,802. Diesel engines remain the popular choice for buyers in the state.

Data shows 8,014 diesel vehicles registered so far. Petrol models accounted for 7,378 registrations. Electric mobility stays quiet. Official figures show only 18 pure electric vehicles were registered by July 5. The dashboard noted, "Electric mobility, however, continues to make only a marginal presence in the state."

Tata Motors led the market with 3,371 vehicles. Maruti Suzuki followed with 2,576 units. Other top contributors included Ashok Leyland and Mahindra. Luxury brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz also saw registrations, showing demand for high-end models.

Dimapur remains the center of transport activity. The RTO there hit 2.61 million transactions and generated 122.7 crore rupees in revenue. It leads all other regions by a wide margin.
