Nagaland Reaffirms One-Year Ban on Tobacco-Infused Food Products

Kohima: The Nagaland government has confirmed that its prohibition on the manufacturing, processing, storage, and sale of food items containing tobacco or nicotine remains active for one year. The order, which took effect on June 2, 2026, will continue until June 1, 2027.

Anoop Khinchi, the Commissioner of Food Safety and Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, issued the clarification on Wednesday to address concerns from stakeholders regarding the scope of the original notification. The state government aims to clear up previous ambiguities surrounding the implementation of these regulations.

To ensure compliance across the state, officials have been instructed to work closely with local authorities. The order states, "The Food Safety Officials shall ensure the implementation of the prohibition under their respective jurisdiction in co-ordination with the District Administration and Police."
