Nagaland Pushes for 10,900 Solar Rooftop Installations to Boost Energy Security

Kohima: The Nagaland Solar Mission has reaffirmed its commitment to installing 10,900 rooftop solar units across the state. Officials met in Kohima on Tuesday to review the project's progress and discuss strategies to speed up the implementation of these renewable energy systems.

Nagaland Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs, K.G. Kenye, emphasized that the state's transition to green energy requires a unified effort from government agencies, private vendors, and the public. He noted that while solar power is a relatively new concept for many residents, it offers a vital solution to the persistent power shortages currently affecting the region.

Kenye praised the empanelled vendors for their work in educating the public and promoting adoption. He noted that while transitioning from conventional energy sources presents challenges, officials are working to make rooftop solar installations both accessible and affordable. During the meeting, the Minister presented certificates of appreciation to the top three performing vendors: Elmechent, Aboriginal, and Symbios Green Energy.

Nagaland Principal Secretary for Power, K.D. Vizo, who chaired the meeting, highlighted that the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 7, which focuses on providing universal access to modern energy. He described the goal as an ambitious project that will reduce electricity costs for consumers while addressing broader energy challenges. "Development is not the responsibility of the government alone," Vizo stated while calling for active participation from the private sector and the public to ensure the mission's success.

The session also featured a performance review by the team leader of the Nagaland Solar Mission and a discussion on implementation hurdles faced by vendors. Officials reiterated that the mission is a collaborative venture, requiring strong cooperation to build a secure, sustainable energy future for Nagaland.
