Kohima: Nagaland officials announced that the upcoming Census 2027 will serve as a foundational tool for regional development planning. Kenei Miachieo, the Director of Census Operations for Nagaland, stated that active public participation is essential to guarantee that the data collected is both accurate and comprehensive.
The exercise begins with the House Listing Operation, which runs from July 1 to July 30 across the state. A second phase is scheduled for February 2027. This cycle will embrace modern technology, offering households the choice of self-enumeration through an online portal. Enumerators will also use mobile applications to gather data, ensuring the entire processing and analysis pipeline remains digital.
To support this transition, authorities have launched awareness campaigns across 1,606 villages and various urban local bodies. The operation spans all 17 districts and 118 sub-divisions of the state. A workforce of 6,461 personnel, including enumerators, supervisors, and trainers, has been assigned to the project. As one official noted, "We are executing a massive administrative mobilisation to ensure full coverage and accuracy."
The collected demographic and socio-economic insights will ultimately help policymakers design more effective programs. By applying lessons learned from the 2011 census, officials hope to improve outreach and information quality throughout this year's efforts.
