Kohima: The Nagaland Pradesh Mahila Congress (NPMC) launched a nationwide postcard campaign at Congress Bhavan in Kohima to demand the immediate enforcement of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023. The initiative calls for a 33 percent reservation for women in both Parliament and State Assemblies, moving beyond the current government policy.

Party leaders and supporters at the event criticized the BJP-led government for delaying the implementation of the quota. Speakers argued that linking the reservation to future census and delimitation exercises creates unnecessary obstacles. They expressed concern that these conditions could negatively impact federal balance and reduce representation for states that have successfully managed population growth.

The NPMC emphasized that women’s rights should not be sidelined by administrative or political delays. Their demands include a transparent roadmap for implementation, specific representation for OBC women, and protections to maintain the federal structure of the nation. The organization asserted that women across India deserve genuine democratic participation rather than symbolic policy gestures.

Participants highlighted the vital role women from Northeast India play in leadership and social development. The event, which included a signature drive and a press conference, concluded with a direct appeal to the Government of India to finalize the reservation process using existing constituency boundaries.
