Kohima: Officials gathered at the Nagaland Sales Emporium Complex in Kohima on August 28 to honor the Tribal Research Documentation Team and State Technical Support Team. The event recognized the hard work poured into securing the state's cultural history. NHHDC chairman Prasielie Pienyü led the tributes. He praised the project for shielding traditional knowledge from being lost.
The initiative tracks back to 2021, with an official launch following in 2022. The state has already finished 12 books detailing traditional attires, ornaments, and motifs. These volumes explain the meaning behind ancient designs and cultural habits. Pienyü said, "This initiative is more than a documentation exercise." He credited Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for the vision and funding needed to get the project off the ground.
Kekhrievor Kevichüsa, Commissioner and Secretary for Urban Development, warned against the unauthorized commercial use of tribal designs. He noted that while 12 tribes are finished, others still need to lock in their decisions. He urged the teams to find the common threads linking all Naga people. The project involves multiple departments and tribal bodies working in tandem.
The state honored key leaders including Kumar Ramnikant, Er. Y. Lipongse Thongtsar, Adela Moa, Ruopfülenuo, Dr. Nesatalu Hiese Lomi, and Monyu Konyak. Documentation teams from the Angami, Ao, Konyak, Khiamniungan, Lotha, Pochury, Phom, Rengma, Sangtam, Tikhir, Sumi, and Zeliang tribes also received recognition. Ezholü Rose chaired the session, while Ghovili Achumi spoke on behalf of the tribal committees.
