Kohima: Nagaland officials dropped a new documentary on September 24 detailing the life and athletic career of football legend Dr. Talimeren Ao. Titled Son of Nagaland, the film hit the screen at CIMORB Hotel in Kohima. Minister of Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along led the release.
This launch serves as a primer for the 25th Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Football Tournament, which kicks off October 13 in Mokokchung. The film uses archival footage and personal accounts to map his path from local fields to the 1948 London Olympics. It documents his refusal of an Arsenal Football Club offer to return home and serve his people.
The government plans to keep his story alive. Higher Education authorities will start a yearly lecture series on January 28 at Fazl Ali College. This date marks his birth anniversary. The state will also feature Dr. Ao in the 2026 Hornbill Magazine. Granddaughter Ningdangnaro Tally backed the project. She said, "The documentary would help keep the spirit and legacy of her grandfather alive for present and future generations."
Director Kilangtemsu Imsong helmed the production. The Nagaland Football Association and Mokokchung District Football Association collaborated on the effort. Organizers hope the documentary educates students on his pioneer spirit. The tournament itself runs through October 31 at the Renpo Lu Sports Complex in Ungma.
