Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav honored top-performing students on Wednesday during an awards ceremony at Lok Bhavan in Kohima. The event celebrated rank holders from the 2026 HSLC and HSSLC examinations, recognizing a total of 63 recipients for their academic achievements.
Governor Yadav commended the students for their discipline and perseverance, noting that these awards aim to nurture local talent and encourage meaningful contributions to the state and nation. He highlighted the collective effort behind these successes, acknowledging the crucial roles played by teachers, parents, and schools in providing guidance and support. Addressing the audience, the governor stated, "The Governor’s Award for Meritorious Students was instituted not only to recognise achievement but also to celebrate academic excellence among the youth of Nagaland."
Advisor for school education Kekhriehoulie Yhome also attended the event, where he emphasized the importance of student leadership in achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. While celebrating the current awardees, Yhome expressed concern regarding school dropout rates and encouraged the students to remain humble as they prepare for future leadership roles.
Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, the secretary of school education and chairman-in-charge of the Nagaland Board of School Education, noted that the honors program has been instrumental in driving academic standards across the region. The ceremony concluded with words from NCS officer Furhesie Nyuwi, who urged the graduates to maintain their integrity and continue pursuing excellence regardless of their circumstances.
