Kohima: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav honored high-achieving students during an award ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Kohima on June 17. The event celebrated the accomplishments of rank holders and recipients of the Governor Awards for the 2026 HSLC and HSSLC examinations.
Addressing the students, Governor Yadav emphasized the importance of the awards in recognizing dedication and perseverance. He noted, "The Governor's Award for Meritorious Students has been instituted not merely to confer awards, but to recognize and celebrate academic excellence among the youth of Nagaland." He encouraged the recipients to carry forward the values of integrity and humility throughout their future careers.
The ceremony included various accolades, such as honors for achievements in MILs and skill education, as well as specific awards for students from government schools and Eastern Nagaland. Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education, highlighted the role of students in achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, while expressing concerns regarding school dropout rates.
Rangumbuing Nsarangbe, Secretary of the School Education Department and Chairman-in-Charge of the Nagaland Board of School Education, noted the program's long-term impact on promoting academic excellence. The event also featured an address by NCS officer Furhesie Nyuwi, who shared his personal history of overcoming educational barriers. He urged the graduates to believe in their potential and work toward becoming positive representatives for the state.
