Kohima: The Nagaland Solar Mission is accelerating its transition to renewable energy with a firm goal of installing 10,900 rooftop solar units across the state. Officials met this week to evaluate the project's progress and devise strategies to speed up the rollout of these solar systems.
Minister for Power and Parliamentary Affairs K.G. Kenye emphasized that while solar power is a relatively new concept for many residents, the state holds significant potential to decrease its reliance on traditional power sources. Addressing the assembly, he noted the need for widespread community involvement, stating, "Nagaland’s transition towards renewable energy would require collective efforts from all stakeholders, including government agencies, vendors and consumers."
The government plans to make these rooftop installations more affordable and accessible to the public. By expanding the use of solar energy, officials hope to mitigate recurring power shortages and build a more reliable grid. The initiative is also designed to promote energy security while fostering a greener, more sustainable future for the region.
