Naga youth group demands accountability for six missing hostages in Manipur

Imphal: A prominent Naga youth organization, Khanuithot-Khon, has issued a sharp warning against any plans to release detained Kuki individuals before the safe return of six missing Naga civilians. The group argues that freeing detainees without first securing proof of life for the hostages, who include Rev. Dr. Manu Thiumai and Pastor Kenpibou, constitutes a betrayal of the missing men and their families.

Despite repeated protests and appeals from civil society, the group claims there has been no credible information regarding the whereabouts or safety of the hostages. The organization is demanding clear answers on what mechanisms exist to ensure the captives are alive and returned, stating that justice should not be traded for political convenience.

The youth body also directed a stern warning toward the United Naga Council. They stated that any decisions made regarding these negotiations must be transparent, as the leadership will be held fully accountable for the consequences of any opaque agreements. The group insisted that families have a right to know the details of any discussions surrounding the fate of their loved ones.

Beyond the hostage crisis, the organization called for a strict separation between civil leadership and security operations. They warned that civil society groups should focus on public administration rather than commanding armed units or village guards. According to the group, combining these roles creates conflicts of interest that weaken public trust and undermine institutional accountability.
