Naga Women Union Demands Justice for Six Civilians Killed in Manipur

Imphal: The Naga Women Union (NWU) in Manipur is calling for an urgent and impartial investigation into the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians. During a press conference at the Manipur Press Club, NWU President Priscilla Thuimai condemned the violence, noting that the victims' bodies were discovered in a mutilated state and are currently at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences mortuary.

The victims were reportedly abducted on May 13 before being killed. Thuimai urged the National Investigation Agency to take control of the case to ensure a transparent process, stating, "If the investigating agency is independent and thorough, the people will have faith in the process."

Tensions remain high following the incident, which occurred against a backdrop of ongoing ethnic violence in the region. Thuimai expressed frustration regarding the state's response, specifically criticizing the decision to treat three injured Kuki individuals at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. She argued that moving these individuals to an Army facility would have been a safer choice to avoid provoking local communities.

The NWU leader warned that the Naga community is prepared to launch various intense agitations if justice is not served quickly. She also blamed government agencies for failing to act decisively on earlier hostage incidents, which she claimed allowed the situation to escalate. As of now, authorities have not released specific details regarding suspects or the progress of the official investigation.
