Naga Students March in Manipur Demanding Safe Return of Hostages

Imphal: The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) launched a protest march on June 4 to demand the safe recovery of six Naga men abducted by armed militants on May 13. The demonstration began in Ukhrul district and is moving toward Makhan Naga Village in Kangpokpi district via Imphal, where the group plans to meet with the families of the missing individuals.

ANSAM leaders organized the march to show solidarity with the affected families and to urge state and central authorities to accelerate rescue efforts. The group expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress, noting that an official ultimatum to the Manipur government has already expired without yielding information on the status or whereabouts of the hostages.

The protest follows an emergency assembly held on June 3, where the organization reviewed the case and condemned the official silence. ANSAM leaders stated that the government would be held accountable for any incidents during the march, declaring: "The continued uncertainty had caused immense distress to the families of the abducted individuals and the Naga community at large."

The six men were taken from Leilon Vaiphei village over three weeks ago. As the march continues along the Ukhrul-Imphal National Highway, the association has warned that it will consider further democratic protests if the government does not provide concrete answers regarding the abduction.
