Naga Students in Pune Hold Vigil for Victims of Manipur Violence

Kohima: Members of the Naga community in Pune held a peaceful candlelight vigil on June 15, 2026, to honor six individuals killed in Manipur. Approximately 200 people, including students, community elders, and supporters, gathered at Sportswing in Mundhwa to express their solidarity and mourn the lives lost.

Participants lit candles during the event to serve as a call for accountability and peace. Rumen Pongener, president in charge of the Naga Students Union Pune, issued a statement expressing profound sorrow regarding the violence. He stated, "He condemned the killing of civilians and urged authorities to ensure justice at the earliest."

Dr. Widiangliu Nkhamnamai also spoke at the gathering, voicing concern over the situation and calling on the government to intervene without bias to secure justice for the community. The Naga Christian Fellowship Pune, led by pastor Meyikumzuk Ozukum, guided the attendees in prayer, focusing on healing and stability for the region. The vigil reinforced the commitment of the Naga community in Pune to support the families of the victims as they continue to demand justice.
