Imphal: Naga civil society organizations gathered at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Manipur on Tuesday to honor the life of 58-year-old Chunjanglung Panmei. The innocent victim was an ardent TRC Follower from Naga Religious Minority, and was killed on June 8 during an ambush by Kuki armed militants while he was collecting firewood and repairing water pipelines near Pongringlong village in the Kangpokpi district, as per reports.

Community leaders used the occasion to voice deep frustration over the state government's inability to halt militant violence. Ng Akhui, a leader with the Foothill Naga Coordinating Committee, publicly questioned the utility of the administration if it cannot ensure the safety of its citizens. He stated, "The government's inability to prevent repeated attacks on innocent civilians and bring the perpetrators to justice" is a sign of a failing security environment.

Akhui highlighted that residents are increasingly concerned by the presence of armed groups wielding sophisticated weapons despite the deployment of security forces. He argued that the lack of effective intervention by authorities has forced many villages to establish their own defensive units. The committee has called for the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack and a re-evaluation of the Suspension of Operations agreements currently held with Kuki militant groups.

The victim's body was recovered with multiple bullet wounds following a search in the forest between Pongringlong and Charoi Pondaijang. After post-mortem examinations were completed at the mortuary, the remains were returned to Panmei’s family for final rites.
