Imphal: The Manipur Naga Youth Organisation and the Foothills Naga Coordination Committee have issued a formal rebuttal against a rally held in Kangpokpi on May 25, 2026. The civil groups claim the event was a staged attempt to protect Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen from growing allegations of financial misconduct. They submitted their concerns to top government officials, including the President of India and the Prime Minister, via the Manipur Governor.

The organizations accuse Kipgen of misappropriating funds designated for the Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills. According to the rebuttal, these resources were redirected exclusively toward Kuki-dominated areas, leaving Naga villages across eight districts without necessary support. The groups described this practice as blatant communalism and a failure of governance.

In their formal request, the groups are calling for Kipgen to be stripped of her current portfolio and removed from her position as Deputy Chief Minister. They argue that the Tribal Affairs and Hills portfolio should be reassigned to the Chief Minister or another trusted official to restore integrity to the department.

Beyond financial concerns, the groups expressed alarm over reports linking the Deputy Chief Minister's family to certain organizations active in the conflict-ridden region. They maintain that these discriminatory policies have hindered peace efforts and fueled communal distrust. The bodies rejected claims that their earlier grievances were politically motivated, insisting that their focus remains on transparency, justice, and equitable treatment for all tribal communities.
