Guwahati: Moran officials launched an enforcement drive against unhygienic conditions and road encroachment at the town's daily and fish markets. A joint team of the Moran Revenue Circle Officer, Dikhari Panchayat, and Moran Police issued fines to traders violating local rules.
The crackdown follows constant complaints from local residents and a nearby school. The area suffered from dumped fish waste, thermocol, and garbage littering the roadsides. The administration had previously set a deadline for cleanup, but traders failed to act. The Moran regional committee of Asomiya Yuva Mancha also pushed for change by submitting a formal memorandum to the local government.
Authorities ordered traders to pull their goods off public footpaths and clear encroached space immediately. Officials warned that failure to comply could lead to the complete sealing of the fish market and further legal action. The administration granted the market authorities and traders one week to improve conditions.
