Kohima: MLA Namri Nchang has issued an urgent plea for unity and peaceful coexistence following the disappearance of six Naga individuals in Manipur. These men were reported missing after communal tensions flared in Kangpokpi district on May 13, triggered by the killing of three church leaders. While mediation efforts previously secured the release of 14 other individuals, the status of the six men, including Rev. Manu Thiumai, remains unknown.
Namri condemned the detention of civilians as a violation of humanitarian values and constitutional principles. He emphasized that such actions only serve to deepen mistrust and threaten the fragile harmony between the Naga and Kuki communities. He urged all parties to choose dialogue over conflict to prevent further instability in the region.
The MLA called on both the state and central governments to ramp up search operations and launch a transparent investigation into the matter. He also invited church leaders and civil society groups to facilitate peace-building efforts. While encouraging residents of Peren district to maintain stability, he insisted that anyone involved in unlawful activities must face the full force of the law to restore trust.
