Aizawl: The Mizoram government is weighing a three-month extension for Mizotaxi registration. Chief Secretary Khilli Ram Meena chaired a Coordination Committee on Traffic Management meeting to discuss the plan. They want more operators on the app to help clear gridlock in Aizawl.
Mizotaxi launched on July 1. It offers a way to stop overcharging by fixing government-approved fares for all rides. Transport Department Secretary C Lalruaia confirmed 1,570 vehicles signed up by Friday. This total includes 397 four-wheelers, 1,149 two-wheelers, and 24 autorickshaws.
Demand is steady. The platform logged 28,553 ride requests since launch, but only 279 drivers were active on the app Friday. Officials hope the extra time brings more drivers into the fold. The state views the app as a key tool for a regulated, transparent transport system. As the government stated, the project looks to "expand app-based transport services and ease traffic congestion in Aizawl."
