Mizoram Reports 71 Tuberculosis Deaths as New Cases Top 1,000

Aizawl: Mizoram lost 71 people to tuberculosis in the first six months of 2026. Health officials confirmed 1,087 new cases during that same window. Doctors screened 61,246 residents between January and June to catch the surge.

The data shows 600 men and 68 children under 14 caught the disease. While the numbers are high, the state hit an 86.49 percent success rate for those on treatment plans. State TB Officer Zochhuanawmi said, "only around 28 per cent of TB patients currently receiving treatment have donor support and stressed the need for greater community participation and more donors to assist patients."

Government leaders and officials currently provide food baskets to 374 patients. Officials want more donors to step up. They continue to push for early diagnosis and better nutrition to curb the spread of the infection. Residents should see a doctor immediately if symptoms appear.
