Aizawl: Mizoram Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha led a Telecom Advisory Committee meeting in Aizawl on Friday. He demanded BSNL officials bring cell coverage to every village. He wants better access for geo-tagging work under PM Poshan and the MGNREGA program. The committee also pushed for faster work on the DBN 4G Saturation Project and the Indo-Myanmar link.
BSNL General Manager B.P. Meena confirmed progress on several fronts. He noted that the firm finished 111 new 4G sites under Phase-IX.2. Another 30 sites went live to cover remote areas previously left in the dark. Meena said, "111 new 4G sites have been commissioned under Phase-IX.2, while 30 additional sites have been established under the 4G Saturation Project, improving mobile connectivity in remote and previously uncovered villages."
Technical upgrades now link district headquarters in Saitual, Khawzawl, and Champhai to optical fibre lines. Crews also bumped up bandwidth in Serchhip, Lunglei, Lawngtlai, and Siaha. The state plans to connect all 776 Gram Panchayats using the Amended BharatNet Programme. This project requires laying roughly 5,600 kilometres of new cable to bridge the digital gap in rural Mizoram.
