Aizawl: Mizoram officials rolled out MizoTaxi on Wednesday. This locally built app aims to fix the state transport system by connecting drivers and commuters through a single digital platform. Transport Minister Vanlalhlana introduced the service at the Directorate of Transport in Aizawl. He believes the move signals a shift toward better government service.
Big players like Uber and Ola dominate the national market. Mizoram chose a different path by backing local tech. Vanlalhlana stated, "The initiative represents a landmark achievement in the State's efforts to modernise public transportation through technology."
The app avoids the trap of dynamic pricing. Instead, it sticks to fares set by the State Transport Authority. This ensures transparency for riders coming through hubs like Lengpui Airport. The state transport office expects this to cut down on wait times for drivers and confusion for passengers.
The platform keeps six percent of each fare for maintenance. Fees per trip range from 5 to 10 rupees. This rollout pushes forward despite early pushback from some local taxi unions. The government hopes the app will make travel safer and more predictable for everyone involved.
