Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma hit the stage in Shillong last Friday. He demanded the Union Finance Ministry raise the allocation for Externally Aided Projects across the North East. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the seminar, which gathered regional leaders and global development partners to sharpen the implementation of these massive state projects.
Lalduhoma touted the state's track record with international cash. He pointed to road upgrades funded by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. He argued these ventures do more than just drop funds. "They not only provide financial support but also deliver technical expertise through specialists who study local challenges and share solutions," Lalduhoma said.
The state has seen real wins. The FOCUS project bolstered incomes for 55,000 rural households by nearly 43 percent. Meanwhile, a World Bank health initiative helped 62 government facilities earn national quality certifications. New efforts include a JICA-backed cancer center and a hydro project funded by the New Development Bank.
Lalduhoma wants to keep the momentum rolling. He asked the center to lift the spending ceiling to allow for more infrastructure, water, and management projects. Officials from the Department of Economic Affairs and the World Bank also spoke at the event.
