Itanagar: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma is standing by his team. He ruled out any major cabinet shakeup this week. Ministers are finally hitting their stride in their departments, he explained. There is no need for big changes right now.
Talk of a cabinet overhaul picked up speed after Lalduhoma took over the Personal and Administrative Reforms portfolio from K. Sapdanga. The Chief Minister shut down those rumors at a Zoram People’s Movement party event. He said the move was pre-planned by the party’s Political Affairs Committee and had nothing to do with internal fighting.
Lalduhoma defended his record. He pointed to ten minor administrative tweaks already made to help departments run better. “There has been speculation about a major reshuffle, but our ministers have worked hard and are only now becoming fully established in their departments. Therefore, we do not feel a major reshuffle is necessary,” he said.
The government is now halfway through its five-year term. Lalduhoma told party workers that the clock is ticking on reform. They have to keep cutting corruption and fixing public service delivery. He warned against laziness. “Although we have completed half of our tenure, there is still much to accomplish. This is not the time to become complacent,” he said.
The administration is looking toward the Vikshit Mizoram 2047 plan. This roadmap aims to boost the local economy and eventually push the state to contribute one percent of India’s total GDP. Lalduhoma says the plan is bigger than his time in office. He wants a stronger, better leader to take the reins when his turn ends.
