Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma slammed the door on the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. The ZPM will not join the coalition. It stays independent.
Lalduhoma confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah personally invited the ZPM to sign on. He turned them down. The party wants to protect its own regional identity instead of folding into a national bloc.
The Chief Minister insists that the party still wants to work with New Delhi. He says the state needs a smooth relationship with the federal government to get things done, but that does not mean joining their ranks.
"ZPM believes in maintaining cordial relations with the Centre for the benefit of Mizoram while retaining its independent identity as a regional political party," Lalduhoma said.
The ZPM intends to hold onto its core political principles. It avoids formal ties to stay clear of the national power struggle.
