Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma issued a blunt warning to the state's youth on Thursday. He urged them to reject drug use and told citizens to report traffickers to the authorities. The speech came during the International Day Against Drug Abuse event at Aizawl's Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall.
Addiction ruins families and communities. The Chief Minister told the crowd that people must find the strength to say no to drugs even when they are easy to find. He warned that experimenting with narcotics almost always leads to a downward spiral.
Mizoram sits near regions known for illegal drug production. This geography makes the state a prime target for criminal networks. The government has partnered with churches and groups like the Young Mizo Association to tackle the issue. They formed coordination committees and stepped up enforcement operations.
Traffickers are getting smarter. They use drones and sophisticated technology to move product across borders. They also trick innocent people into carrying narcotics. Addressing these evolving threats, Lalduhoma said, "Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses."
The state recognized several people for their work in rehabilitation and recovery during the event. Boxer Samuel Zadeng and footballer Cindy Remruatpuii Colney received awards for their contributions to sports. Several rehabilitation centers also earned recognition for helping addicts turn their lives around.
