Aizawl: Mizoram marked 40 years of stability on Tuesday. The state observed Remna Ni to honor the 1986 peace agreement that ended two decades of fighting. Governor Vijay Kumar Singh and Chief Minister Lalduhoma asked locals to keep the peace alive. This deal changed the state forever.
The Governor praised the accord as a key turning point for the region. He noted that the agreement restored trust and helped democracy take root. The Governor reminded residents that true peace involves more than just silence. He stated, "Peace is more than the absence of violence, describing it as the cornerstone of democracy, human rights, trust, tolerance and social harmony."
Lalduhoma pointed to the state's growth since 1986. Before the pact, conflict stalled most major progress. Today, the state boasts high literacy rates and ranks among the top performers for development in Northeast India. Infrastructure work remains a top priority, including new rail lines to Sairang and road projects like the Vairengte-Sairang highway. The Chief Minister expects this stability to fuel even more growth in the coming years.
