Imphal: Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga announced a major recruitment drive to bolster the state's security forces. The government intends to hire 350 police personnel, consisting of 150 unarmed constables and 200 armed officers, alongside 94 home guards. The home guard positions are currently restricted to male applicants because the existing quota for women is already full.

Sapdanga committed to a transparent selection process based on merit, discipline, and physical fitness. Applicants must hold a Class 10 qualification to be considered. The minister warned against political interference, stating that physical training support is the only acceptable way to help candidates, as selection decisions will remain independent of external recommendations. Home guard recruits will serve an initial three-year term subject to standard regulations.

In addition to the recruitment news, the government introduced the Mission Urban Drain project. This 35-crore rupee initiative aims to protect Aizawl from flooding and landslides. Surveys for the project are complete, with work scheduled for 44 sites across all 40 constituencies. The plan involves creating a master drainage map and installing new storm drains to prevent overlapping projects. Where possible, these drains will be covered to create new roadways or walkways, aiding mobility in the steep terrain.

The state has set a completion deadline of 2033 for the safety infrastructure project. Work will begin in the most vulnerable areas of the capital before expanding to other district headquarters, reflecting a long-term effort to improve urban safety.
