Aizawl: Mizoram is climbing the national ranks for HPV vaccinations. Health Minister Lalrinpuii confirmed the state holds third place across India. She wants the number one spot next. Officials are now pushing frontline workers to close the gap.
The campaign shows real progress in the Lunglei district. Health teams vaccinated 1,326 adolescent girls there between February and May. This figure surpassed the original target of 1,243, hitting 107 percent coverage. Success is clear.
The state is also launching its annual Pulse Polio drive. It covers all 11 districts. More than one lakh children under five will get shots at 1,430 booths. India has been polio-free for years, but the job is not finished. Additional Secretary Lalnunmawii Ralte warned that polio remains a threat in neighboring nations like Myanmar, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
Lalrinpuii praised local health workers for recent wins. These include high marks in National Quality Assurance Standards and lower mortality rates for mothers and infants. These gains earned the state recognition as one of India's "Eligible States." The Minister noted that Mizoram's smaller population helps with service delivery. However, she added, "The people of Mizoram have high expectations from the government."
