Imphal: The Melbourne Thadou Baptist Church (MTBC) recently held a special memorial service to mourn the tragic deaths of three prominent Thadou church leaders in Manipur. The victims, identified as President of the Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI) Rev. Dr. Vumthang Sitlhou, TBAI Finance Secretary Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Pastor Paogoulun Sitlhou, were killed in a targeted gun ambush on May 13, 2026. The attack occurred while the group was traveling from Churachandpur to Kangpokpi following their attendance at a United Baptist Convention meeting.

Reflecting on their legacy, the MTBC highlighted the profound impact of Rev. Dr. Vumthang, who was instrumental in the Thadou Bible translation project and the support of the Ngulhao Theological Seminary. His vision for peace and inter-community coexistence served as a cornerstone for the Global Thadou Christian Congress. The church leaders emphasized that while the loss of these three figures leaves a significant void, the community remains dedicated to upholding the mission of unity and compassion they championed. In their official statement, the MTBC expressed strong condemnation of the violence, calling for immediate justice and sustained security for all affected communities in Manipur.
