Meghalaya Unveils State's Tallest National Flag at USTM Campus

Shillong: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) recently unveiled a 150-foot national flag at its Knowledge Park in Shillong. This installation marks the tallest Tricolour in the state and makes USTM the first institution in the hill region to host a monument of this size.

The flag was donated by the Mumbai-based DK Flag Foundation and hoisted by a team led by Dr. Rakesh Bakshi. The ceremony featured a performance by the Meghalaya Police Band from the 1st MLP Battalion and a display by the SFS School Girls Band. Notable attendees included USTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma, Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, and officials from the CRPF and local police.

Dr. Rakesh Bakshi, known as the Flag Man of India, explained the reasoning behind the selection of the university site. “I chose the USTM for the installation of this monumental National Tricolour because USTM truly reflects the values of integrity, discipline, inclusiveness and nation-building,” he stated.

The DK Flag Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on promoting the Flag Code of India and fostering national pride by installing monumental flags across the country. USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque expressed gratitude to the foundation for selecting the university to house this symbol of national unity.
