Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma held a review meeting on May 14 to assess the progress of Mission 1000 Days, a flagship government program dedicated to tackling child stunting and malnutrition. The initiative prioritizes maternal and child health during the critical first 1,000 days of a child's development, aiming to bolster health outcomes across the state.
During the briefing, the Chief Minister underscored the necessity for measurable outcomes and more robust implementation at the grassroots level. He directed officials to enhance continuous monitoring to ensure the program effectively reaches remote and vulnerable populations. Central to this effort is an intensified awareness campaign regarding essential practices such as breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, and proper child feeding techniques.
The review also highlighted current operational initiatives at anganwadi centers, which include the provision of hot cooked meals, such as eggs, for pregnant and lactating mothers. To further support these efforts, the government is integrating digital learning tools and youth fellowship programs designed to improve nutrition literacy. Sangma emphasized that community involvement remains the cornerstone of the mission, stating that collaborative action is vital for securing a healthier future for all children in Meghalaya.
