Shillong: Kitkupar Nongsiej is heading to Las Vegas. The Meghalaya singer will represent India at the World Championships of Performing Arts from July 13 to 21, 2026. He earned his spot after passing a rigorous international audition process.
He leaves Shillong on July 10 alongside his father, Aibari Kupar Syiemlieh. The trip follows a previous delay caused by global geopolitical issues. Don Bosco Youth Centre and Don Bosco Media Network hosted a send-off ceremony this Tuesday to mark the occasion.
Nongsiej hails from Kynshi in the Eastern West Khasi Hills. His resume includes a stint with the Shillong Chamber Choir and a 2025 performance program in Indonesia. He also holds a title from the Ka Sur Kynud singing competition.
Michael Makri, director of the Don Bosco Youth Centre, praised the singer's rise during the ceremony. "Our mission has always been to discover hidden talents and provide them with opportunities that many young people only dream about," Makri said. Organizers hope his performance will highlight Meghalaya's musical heritage to the world.
