Meghalaya Ramps Up Aadhaar Enrolment to Secure Welfare Access

Shillong: Meghalaya is cranking up Aadhaar enrolment and e-KYC drives. Officials want to ensure eligible residents keep getting their welfare benefits. Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma led a review meeting this past Thursday with heads of the Community and Rural Development, Health, Social Welfare, and Food and Civil Supplies departments. They checked the progress of Aadhaar seeding across major government programs.

Data shows 77.02 per cent of households under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana have linked their Aadhaar. Individual beneficiary linkage sits at 57.13 per cent. Meanwhile, 61.01 per cent of National Food Security Act beneficiaries have finished their e-KYC. Officials plan to boost these numbers soon.

The state might hire Common Service Centres to handle the backlog. They will also set up new enrolment camps with district administrations to spread awareness. Sangma confirmed the government will back residents through the process. "The state government would provide every possible support to help citizens complete Aadhaar enrolment and e-KYC requirements," he stated. He warned that finishing these forms is mandatory to stay eligible for central scheme payments.
