Shillong: Chief Secretary Dr. Shakil P. Ahammed wants faster Aadhaar coverage across Meghalaya. He led a state-level review meeting in Shillong on Thursday with the UIDAI regional office. The state needs better coordination to fix existing coverage gaps. Work will be time-bound.
UIDAI Deputy Director General Ngachan Zimik reported rising enrolment and authentication numbers. He flagged specific areas that need more attention. The state will now prioritize Birth Registration Based Aadhaar Enrolment for children aged 0 to 5. Health facilities and district hospitals will lead this effort using Birth Registration Numbers.
Schools must step up. The School Education Department will run special drives to handle Mandatory Biometric Updates. Zimik suggested tracking these updates through the UDISE+ portal. "Timely updates would prevent authentication hurdles when students access government scholarships and welfare schemes, or sit for competitive examinations such as NEET, JEE, and CUET," he said. Clear tracking will help students avoid future trouble.
Officials also plan to digitize government documents by adding QR codes for verification. They want to use Aadhaar authentication to improve public service delivery. Zimik demonstrated the new Aadhaar App. It handles offline verification, biometric locking, and identity checks for hotels and hospitals.
Key officials including Lt. Col. Swapan Kumar Saxena, Pravin Bakshi, and Swapnil Tembe attended the session. The state will now deploy available enrolment kits to speed up the process.
