Meghalaya MLA Urges Center to Address Rising Cancer Cases in Northeast

Shillong: Meghalaya legislator A.L. Hek held a meeting with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda at Kartavya Bhavan in New Delhi this Tuesday. The former state health minister highlighted the sharp rise in cancer diagnoses across Meghalaya and the broader Northeast region, calling for immediate intervention from the central government.

Hek emphasized the need to bolster healthcare systems and expand cancer treatment infrastructure to manage the growing public health challenge. He also acknowledged the efforts of current Meghalaya Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla, who previously reached out to the Union Health Ministry to advocate for increased resources.

Following the discussion, Hek stated that the Union Health Minister pledged full cooperation from the central government. Nadda promised to take positive steps toward improving cancer care facilities and addressing the systemic issues facing the region.
