Shillong: The Meghalaya government has introduced an online registration portal to create a central database of students and workers living in foreign countries. By visiting meghalayaone.gov.in, residents can voluntarily provide their details to help state authorities offer faster assistance during emergency situations.

The Home Political Department initiated this program after facing difficulties tracking and supporting citizens stranded overseas during past conflicts or civil disturbances. Officials stated that a lack of centralized records has historically hindered their ability to coordinate safe evacuations and repatriation efforts when crises arise in foreign nations.

Interested individuals can submit their contact information, local Meghalaya addresses, guardian details, and current residential information abroad. The government is encouraging both current residents and those planning future travel for work or study to sign up. While registration is not mandatory, officials believe this proactive measure will significantly improve their capacity to protect citizens during unforeseen emergencies.
