Shillong: Meghalaya will begin a Special Intensive Revision of its electoral rolls on June 20 to update voter records across the state. The process starts with a preparatory phase lasting until June 29, followed by an extensive period of door-to-door verification by booth-level officers from June 30 through July 29.
Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari confirmed the timeline for the project. "The starting phase will be from June 20 to June 29. Thereafter, from June 30 to July 29, BLOs will conduct house visits," Tiwari said.
The initiative aims to maintain the integrity of the electoral database by adding newly eligible voters, removing deceased or relocated individuals, and fixing errors. Following the field work, authorities will publish a draft electoral roll on August 5. Residents will have until September 4 to submit any claims or objections regarding the draft data.
The revision process concludes with the release of the final electoral roll on October 7. Officials have set October 1 as the official qualifying date for this exercise. Tiwari emphasized that the department is following strict guidelines to ensure the rolls are both accurate and inclusive, noting that their methods aim to guarantee that no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible voter is included.
