Shillong: The Meghalaya Society for Social Audit and Transparency hits the ground running July 8. They plan to inspect 12 major government programs for the 2026-27 fiscal year. It is a massive task. Teams will visit villages to check project sites and verify if aid actually reaches the people who need it most.
The audit covers critical programs like the Jal Jeevan Mission, MGNREGA, PM Poshan, and the PDS. Officials will start with meetings and a calendar before moving to door-to-door checks. They intend to use input from locals to shape their findings. They will hold public hearings at the block level to address specific community concerns.
After the hearings, the state will receive final reports. The agency insists that community involvement keeps the government honest. Officials stated, "community participation is central to the process as it strengthens the monitoring and evaluation of public programmes while promoting transparency, accountability and trust."
The group wants everyone involved. They are calling on beneficiaries and local agencies to show up and speak out. This push aims to fix gaps and ensure these welfare schemes produce real results for the public.
